Event Information
The Plant at Kyle is a superb event space set on seventeen Hill-Country acres just 30 miles from downtown Austin. The house and grounds have been the site for many memorable gatherings, including meetings, celebrations, performances, receptions, weddings, banquets, retreats, and birthdays. It was among the architectural sites featured in Solange’s 2016 Grammy award-winning hit “Cranes in the Sky” music video. The property can accommodate gatherings of up to 50 people. LGBTQ+ events are encouraged. (The Plant’s co-owners Mark Holzbach and Dana Friis-Hansen are a same-sex couple who married in Toronto in 2005). We value social equity, inclusivity, accessibility, environmental sustainability, and belong to the International Dark-Sky Association.

Many wonderful events have been held at The Plant over the years, so naturally there are many photos on the internet that can serve as reference and inspiration. Search the term “‘plant at kyle’ wedding” (or just click on this link).
Our guests plan and organize their own events. Although we do not offer event planning or management services, upon request we will be delighted to provide you with recommendations for independent caterers, event management and rental companies, photographers, and concierge services, etc.
If you have specific dates in mind for an event please consult The Plant’s online calendar below to check availability. This calendar is always up-to-date.
The Plant Amenities
The Plant’s first floor layout is flexible. Informal or formal events can be easily arranged including standing and/or seated areas.
Four large farm tables are available for the use of our guests: Additionally, there is a rustic table on the porch, 4’x8’ on rollers, which is often moved for use as a bar.
Guests are required to return furniture to the original locations before they check out.
The Plant’s kitchen is well appointed and is often used to prepare meals from scratch, or as a caterer staging kitchen. It is stocked with table settings, cloth napkins, wine and water glasses for up to 50 people. The pantry is well equipped including a 40 cup coffee maker, trays and plastic ware for poolside use.
For seated celebrations, we can provide up to 50 modern aluminum chairs, and 6 large farm tables at no additional charge. For additional event enhancements, Austin area event rental companies provide items such as tents, tables, chairs, linens, china, and glassware. Upon request with adequate notice, The Plant can hang outdoor event festoon lights (please see lighting details near the end of this page).
For medium or large-scale outdoor events in the warm weather, the Plant was designed and oriented to catch prevailing breezes, has a lovely 20’ x40' salt water swimming pool, and if more cooling is needed a rental company can provide one or more large swamp-cooler fans. Pool floats, a croquet set, and a washer toss game are available in the nearby pool shed. Also located poolside is a Webber Summit BBQ grill, with propane.
In cool weather, the Plant can provide three propane porch heaters, including a propane tank, to help keep guests warm with additional charge.
The living room floor is poured concrete, and the screen porch floor is brick. The entire first floor is wheelchair accessible. If a raised stage or wood dance floor is desired, many rental companies can provide these. The Plant works with all of the local area event rental companies.
The house has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The first floor bathroom is relatively small and rustic in comparison to the other two.
Ample parking is available in a parking field immediately next to The Plant.
Please explore this website, our Facebook page, and google for more information about the house, to view more photos, and to read reviews from our guests.

Event Rental Fees
During our standard season (31 March through 15 November) The Plant usually requires a two-night stay minimum rental on weekends. The house sleeps up to ten guests in three bedrooms. Your big event day is usually planned to fall midway between the two nights of the stay.
An event rental fee is charged for events attended by 16 or more people. During standard season the fee is $45 for each person over 12 years of age, and during our discounted winter season (November 15th and March 31st, not including holidays) the discounted per person event fee is $22.50.
For example, the cost of renting The Plant for a wedding reception with 50 guests is $4,350 including the minimum two-night stay, Texas hotel occupancy tax, and event cleaning fee ($2,350 during our discounted winter season). We also require a $500 refundable damage deposit.
Events attended by 16 or more people require additional event insurance. Guests may either obtain the required $1M liability and property damage coverage on an existing insurance policy by having The Plant at Kyle LLC named as an “additional insured” for one-time event, or they may purchase a $1M coverage event insurance policy through a service.
To browse event insurance on the web, search online for the term “event insurance” (or just click on this link).
Please request a custom price quote describing your type of event and specifying your desired check-in date, check-out date, and event head count via email to info@theplantatkyle.com. Event reservations for The Plant are confirmed upon receipt of a signed rental agreement and first 50% payment. Agreements can be modified (e.g. headcount changes), or cancelled with no penalty up to 60 days before check-in, otherwise the second 50% payment is due on that deadline date. Guests agree to be responsible and respectful of the property, on their own behalf, on behalf of their guests, and on behalf of their hired service providers. Guests agree to leave the property in the same condition as they find it.
We often are present to inspect the property at checkout time.
Alcohol Note: If alcohol will be served at your event, you (or anyone such as a caterer serving alcohol for you) are required to submit forms with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). The forms are available at www.tabc.state.tx.us. The Plant must also provide a signed letter of permission/consent to complete your forms submission. Please allow at least a week from date of request.
